Project Update – 11/12/17

Work continued removing Mill Pond dam and motivate its impounded sediments downstream.

The removal of Mill Pond Dam was completed to the expected bottom of Sullivan Creek (Photo 1), though a subsurface key of unknown size remains. Work continued removing the log crib dam, with a significant portion having been removed to provide a channel for Sullivan Creek through the dam site. Portions of the log crib dam remain; in the channel, beneath a haul road, and in the opposite bank (Photo 2, 3 & 5). The pond has been completely drained, with water levels dropping more than 35 feet. The delta floodplain was graded by machine, and channels were dug to speed and direct the water to better erode the impounded sediments (Photo 4). With the dam removed water was released from Sullivan lake in significant quantity, flushing sediment from the delta and pond bottom into Sullivan Creek and downstream (Photo 5 & 6).
