Project Update 11-5-2018

Completing the remaining ELJs. Concrete was placed within the stone foundation of the east abutment, and reinforcement for subsequent placements was prepped in an upland site. Work began removing the remaining crib dam logs from the old dam site, with a significant amount of previously unknown bedrock being exposed beneath the parking lot. Starter channels were excavated and deposited sediments were laid back to stable slopes at the sewer lagoons. Demobilization activities were continued.

Project Update 10-29-2018

The west campground bridge abutment was completed. At the east abutment, previously placed boulders were removed, silt was then washed from the boulders and the excavation, the boulders were then replaced. Terrace trails were completed as the roads intersecting them were decommissioned. ELJ construction continues. Trees and sedges salvaged in the spring were planted throughout the site. Portions of the floodplain were graded to design widths. The stockpiled bulkbags at the LeHigh site were hauled to Mill Pond and emptied. Smaller demobilization activities continued throughout the week; picking up miscellaneous trash, debris, tools, unused supplies.

Project Update 10-22-2018

The southside loop and levee trails were completed, and work continued on the terrace trails. All areas of the site to be seeded this construction season were completed. The bank adjacent to the old boat launch was graded back to a stable slope. Access roads to completed areas were decommissioned. ELJ construction continues, working from the top of the site to the bottom, as availability of root wad trees allows. Cable lashings were installed on the helicopter placed ELJs. The construction of the west bridge abutment at the campground continued, with concrete being placed within the void space of the rock pedestal, and the reinforced footing.

Project Update 10-15-2018

At river mile 2.5, a guard rail was installed adjacent to the road and the access ramp to the creek was removed. At river mile 0.3, bulk bags were removed from the Lehigh site and staged on the opposite side of the creek. Helicopter placed ELJs were completed in Sullivan Creek upstream of Mill Pond. The Mill Pond floodplain continued to be graded, and topsoil and woody debris spread throughout the site. Crews continued to plant the floodplain, and upland and riparian areas. Logs were staged at ELJ locations for future installation. Work continued at the southside trail, nearing completion. Concrete debris from the demolished dam were collected and stockpiled for future removal from the site.

Project Update 10-8-2018

Work was completed placing rootwad logs in the overflow channel at RM 3.0. Trail work continues on the south side trail with a road having been constructed to access the western portion of the trail.  Work continued on the lowland trail, grading and placing crushed rock over geotextile fabric. Logs continued to be placed throughout the site in high density planting areas. Remaining ELJs continue to be constructed. Materials for helicopter placed ELJs were staged at a designated landing area. Limited duration releases from Sullivan Lake continued intermittently thought the week. All completed areas were harrow raked (where appropriate) and seeded. Live stakes continued to be delivered and planted at the southern portions of the site. The upper reach continued to be graded with material placed as fill on the campground erosion structures. The campground bridge abutment was excavated and boulders began to be placed. Starter channels were excavated at the Metaline Falls sewer lagoons to motivate impounded sediments.
